Do you remember SOPA? The bill that would give government the right to spy on internet activity without warrant, and let them censor “unwanted” sites by blocking people’s access to them?

Meet its twin. But this time it’s all the more frightening; the House has passed it despite Obama’s threats to veto. And by an alarmingly large margin, at that. CISPA threatens the US constitution’s guarantees of due privacy and free speech, permitting any government agency to access and transfer of vast amounts of data- from internet records to even the content of personal e-mails, and all without obtaining a warrant.

What’s even more disgusting than this bill actually making through the House is some of the arguments used to help it’s passage, and comments made by one of the bill’s biggest supporters admitting the bill helps big business while insulting opposers (whose is also speculated to have personal reasons for wanting CISPA made into law).

This threatens every element of your online presence. From personal emails to general activity, any government agency will have the ability to go fishing without consequence.

Please, PLEASE, sign the following petitions. You don’t even have to be a US citizen to sign most of them or act against CISPA, and please keep in mind that if this shit flies in America, who knows what country might use its example to do it, too.

Reblog: This and other posts like it to raise awareness of this threat to internet freedom and privacy.

I will be posting more petitions and resources as I become aware of them.

Today’s a pretty big day for queer rights, seeing as marriage equality is going down in the Supreme Court. However I was pretty disheartened by the HRC’s ‘go red’ campaign on Facebook. Why, I thought to myself, couldn’t they use this amazing influence they have to start an internet movement that would actually help those of us still struggling for basic rights? Such as the right to be legally recognized as a person. To at least have our basic existence validated.
There is currently a petition that seeks to do just that, but we’re running out of time.
Changing your profile pic to a red HRC flag takes about just as much effort as signing this petition, but the difference between the two is this petition could actually have an enormous and meaningful impact on the lives of non-binary people. We need to reach 100,000 signatures in order to get a response from the White House and it only takes a few seconds to sign and reblog! And all you need to sign is an email.
So please, in celebration of marriage equality, and in support of all queer people, sign and spread this petition! We still need 75,000 signatures and have less than a week. Please, please do all you can to spread this. As a non-binary person, this would mean the world to me, and to many others. We can’t do it without you. Thank you!

White House Petition (Please Sign): Recognize Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome as a Disability

stfuconservatives:

heroes-get-made:

Hi everyone. So, there’s this petition on the White House website about a disease called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. It’s not that rare, but not a whole lot of people know about it.

Basically, in a person who has it, their collagen is damaged or non-existent.

Collagen plays a very significant role in the skin, joints, muscles, ligaments, blood vessels, and visceral organs. Abnormal collagen leads to increased elasticity within these structures. Depending on the individual, the severity of the mutation can vary from mild to life-threatening. There is no cure, and treatment is supportive, including close monitoring of the digestive, excretory, and particularly the cardiovascular systems.

Generally, it sucks to have EDS.

My sister has it. Various members of my family have it. And I have enough symptoms of it that it’s quite possible I have it, too.

Anyway, I would really appreciate it if you could please sign this petition or, if you’re not in the United States, at least reblog and help get the word out. We only have until January 2nd to get 25,000 signatures. It won’t hurt anyone to have this disease classified as a disability, but it could help a lot of people.

Please sign the petition here, and thank you so much!

Signal boost!

Hi guys, My name is Kyle. I am 18 and a transgender male.
We only have 1 MONTH (till december 19, 2012) to get 25,000 signatures on the petition I just created for the white house to review. It is basically asking them to provide coverage for transgender surgeries and hormonal treatment. Here is a link to the exact petition:

Come on guys, I have seen the dumbest posts on here get a million notes. All we need is 25,000. So REBLOG REBLOG. And tell you friends and such. It takes 2 seconds and can really make a difference in someones life. Being transgender is both a medical and emotional condition that DESERVES coverage. The cost of these things make goals for some seem almost unreachable.

Followers, PLEASE do this. It takes a minute and it will change the lives of so many people. Sign and reblog. Remember those who paved the way on National Transgender Remembrance Day.

Change the Sexual Assault Policy at Columbia College Chicago

cuntofdoom:

veggielezzyfemmie:

please sign this.

Columbia’s sexual assault policy is as follows: Victims of sexual assault must contact a campus security officer or the Dean of Students Office to report the incident.

The security guard or Dean of Students will determine if the investigation will proceed. If it does, both the victim and the alleged perpetrator will be present for a trail in front of the board.

If there is not enough evidence and the victim is accused of lying, he or she may be suspended or expelled.

Certain employers in the US are now requiring that job applicants hand over passwords to Facebook and other social networking sites.

skeletree:

Please sign this petition urging the Department of Justice to investigate this practice and support Senator Richard Blumenthal in his attempt to ban this ridiculous invasion of privacy.

It’s one thing to view someone’s public posts, but to demand access to a person’s private account is another issue entirely.

Last summer, CeCe McDonald, a young African American transgender woman, was violently attacked in the heart of South Minneapolis. As she and several friends, also African American and queer or allied, were walking to the grocery store, a group of white adults standing outside of a bar started shouting racist and transphobic insults at them, calling the youth “faggots,” “niggers,” and “chicks with dicks”. Tragically, the violence did not stop there- one of the white adults slashed CeCe across the face with a broken bottle, cutting all the way through her cheek, and another of the attackers was fatally stabbed. Amazingly, in the aftermath of this racist and transphobic attack, the only person facing charges is CeCe McDonald- the victim. Michael Freeman, the Hennepin County Attorney, has charged CeCe with two counts of second degree murder. Because of these charges, she has been unable to recover from the attack and prevented from continuing her studies at the Minneapolis Community Technical College. Considering that County Attorney Michael Freeman has dropped charges in similar situations this year and that he has advocated strongly for programs to keep kids in school, arguing “We all know that when kids miss school they don’t learn,” why is Michael Freeman ruthlessly going after this young student? We refuse to allow racism and transphobia, on Minnapolis streets or in Minneapolis courts. We support CeCe. We are waiting for County Attorney Michael Freeman to honor his committment, in his words “to serve all of our citizens with understanding, dignity, and respect” by dropping the charges against CeCe McDonald. Ace Secrets: Asexual Education Petition: Executive Producers of House: Reconsider your portrayals of asexual characters!

The House episode “Better Half” which aired on January 23, 2012, represented asexuality very poorly by attributing it to both medical illness and deception. The episode encourages viewers to meet asexuality with skepticism rather than acceptance, to probe asexual people for causes of our…
