Man, you ever have a day where all sorts of little unlucky things seem to all be hating on you at once? Like super duper tiny stuff, but all of a sudden it’s the worst day you’ve had in a while?

Yeah, those days suck.

What if gun control laws were like abortion laws?

What if gun rights were regulated like abortion rights? Here’s a list of just some of the hoops you’d have to jump through before you could own a gun:

  • Only one store in the entire state would sell guns. (See: Mississippi, Arkansas, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming for states with only one abortion provider.)
  • You’d have to fill out an enormous personal background check including intrusive personal information that has nothing to do with your ability to own or use a gun. Then you’d have to wait at least 72 hours and come back to the store. (Remember, it’s the only one in the state. You better hope you don’t live on the other side of Wyoming.)
  • Upon your return, you’d have to sit through intensive mandatory counseling. Your counselor, regardless of his personal beliefs, would have to tell you that gun ownership is actually a bad idea, and that it would negatively effect your mental health to own a gun. (This, despite there being no scientific evidence to support the claim.)
  • Next, you’d sit through a gruesome movie showing the actual aftermath of domestic gun crimes. You’d see people with half a head. You’d see dead children in their beds. You’d see the bloody aftermath of a school shooting. You’d be shown statistic after statistic warning you that you’d be contributing to this morally degenerate sanctioning of murder.
  • If you lived in Virginia, you’d have to come back (again) for an invasive and uncomfortable fMRI (which costs around $300 out of your pocket) to ensure your honesty in answering all the background check information and your intentions to use your gun responsibly. (This was as close as I could get to the invasive transvaginal procedure included in the recently passed Virginia bill.)
  • Oh… and if you were married, your spouse might have to sign off on your gun ownership.

Welp.

This is your chance to help. To be a part of something bigger than your own morals and values.

As some of you may know, 40 Days for Life is a religiously affiliated campaign of protests against abortion, held outside of women’s health clinics. This is currently taking place and runs through November 4th. Most likely, these protests are being held at clinics near you as you read this.

40 Days for Life runs in 316 locations in 49 US States, 7 Canadian Provinces, Australia, England, Spain, and Uganda.

Their website states that their mission is “40 days of prayer and fasting, constant vigil, and community outreach”. This, unfortunately, is not the case. This campaign has turned into 40 days of harassing women in and outside of the clinics, video taping patients as they walk into clinics, and taking pictures of cars/license plates.

So far, women have had protesters show up at their homes placing signs about their abortion in their front yardsphone calls in the middle of the night harassing them, and employees at the clinics have gone through the same issues. What these people don’t understand is that:

1.) These are women’s health clinics that also provide birth control, pap smears, and other reproductive health services. Not all patients are going in for abortion services.
2.) Abortion is still legal in this country!

So how can you help?
All clinics are looking for escorts to help patients in and out of clinics, not only to protect them from harassment but, to let them know they are not alone in their struggles. A list of all locations that 40 Days for Life will be protesting is provided below. If you have free time on your hands and would like touch the hearts of these struggling women, please contact your local clinic and volunteer!

Here is a list of ALL locations that need escorts!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to read this and to those who actually take the time out of their busy schedules to show some support for these women. You could be the light that someone needs during a dark time in their life <3

If you have any questions at all, feel free to contact me.
